A word on the Chilean earthquake
Awful images and testimonials from Chile have flooded Ecuadorian news. More than 700 citizens remain unaccounted for in Concepcion, the city most hit. As well as empathizing enormously with the devastated country, the quake has prompted Ecuador to evaluate its own preparedness for such an incident. On television, both experts and presentors make the same comparison-- Ecuador resembles Haiti more than Chile in terms of infrastructure. And then, the conversation expands to the risk of volcanic erruptions and other merry geographic occurences that have plagued the country.
