A few favourite topics of conversation in Quito:
- Why town X will be destroyed when volcano Y erupts.
(Me in front of the now-agricultural crater of an INACTIVE volcano.)
- Why Quiteno football team X (usually Liga) is far superior to football team Y.
- Predicting when it's going to rain, then hastily adding that the weather here is insane.
- How I was robbed this one time and the police was wildly incompetent.
Sniffing out drugs at the airport.
- How much Chinos (Chinese immigrants in Ecuador) work-- "that's why you never see them."
- Ways in which President Correa is ruining/ saving the country by doing so much/ so little / emulating President Chavez of Venezuela.
- How the buses are too crammed and the streets too crowded.
