El Comercio, one of the three leading national newspapers, which has come out strongly against this possible change.
Currently, the national assembly is reviewing a Presidential change to laws concerning communication. Though I am definitely not fully versed in the issue, I think it merits attention, so forgive any possible subtlety I have missed in this process. The amendments include the classification of media as a "public service," and thus various press organs would have their content and budgets reviewed by a commission. This monitoring is of course not a facet of free media and therefore quite worrying. The assembly is debating the issue until April 3rd-- stay tuned.
