Fundacion Guayasamin

On Monday, I visited the Fundacion Guayasamin, a wonderful property host to a collection of indigenous and colonial art, as well as paintings by Senor Oswaldo Guayasamin himself. Ecuador regards him as its painting prodigy; a mestizo man who delved into cubism as well as striking portraits of an often abused Indigenous population. He also amassed a collection testament to the rich past of Ecuador and Peru, though I must admit that the colonial part was a little too crucifix-themed for my liking...

A Guayasamin portrait.

"I will always maintain a light ablaze" (please offer better translation!!), etched on the wall surrounding the property.

A vase created by a pre-Incan civilization-- whose name embarrassingly escapes me. But no flowers in this beauty. It's actually a burial vase: the deceased were laid to rest inside as a way to link death with the beginning of life-- grow as a foetus in a womb and end as a body in a vase.
